Social Login and Privacy

Login Options

  • Current employees, retirees, and students of CSU should use the Colorado State University NetID login option. This will ask for your CSU NetID login and password.
  • Others without an active CSU NetID should use a social login option (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or LinkedIn).

Information Collection

When you log in with your social account, you provide us with basic information from your social account:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address
  • Your social account ID
    • Starts with numbers and/or letters
    • Ends with @google.com, @facebook.com, @live.com, or @linkedin.com
    • Example: 892729439849339@google.com

Information Use

This information will be used to identify you and connect your social login with your CSU accounts in one or more CSU applications that you are invited and choose to use. These applications create accounts for you and collect and use additional information that you supply. Current CSU applications include FAMweb and Donor Connect.

Social accounts are used for the purpose of authenticating into these CSU applications. Once authenticated, there is no further communication between the CSU application and your social provider.

CSU contracts with a third-party identity provider (Cirrus Identity) to provide a universal authentication framework for qualifying social identity providers. Also see the Cirrus Identity Privacy Policy.

Social media companies like Google, Facebook and Microsoft have large teams devoted to improving security, and are trusted daily by millions of users. You’ve likely already experienced similar options of connecting to websites through your social identity, as it's becoming increasingly popular to not have to reestablish your identity everywhere you go online. Thus you have fewer passwords and usernames to remember. Also, please know that CSU has no access to passwords or any other information that you use with your social media accounts.

CSU also uses this social account information for technical support and troubleshooting.

Information Storage

All data in transit is protected using TLS encryption.

The data is securely stored in databases for identity and access management, behind firewalls, and only accessible to authorized individuals for business purposes.

Information Use

The information is used to improve our website and your Web experience, and to provide more usable, accessible, efficient and effective IT services. Data used from these tracking tools is not linked to your personal information.
